NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Sponsor: Celia McGill At Newcastle our National Honor Society is has been affiliated since 1986.This is an active chapter, with several major activities, including the sponsorship of recycling efforts at the school (in addition to help by a group referred to as the Recycle Bugs!), daily tutoring during the floating study hall, the spring Red Cross blood drive, a mid-winter dance, a fall picnic, a spring camp-out at Ponca State Park, a Christmas party, and the induction ceremony, in addition to spirit activities and regular meetings. Students consider it an honor to be selected to membership, since not all who apply are selected. Activities: Monthly meetings, opening week picnic, year-end campout at Ponca State Park, Christmas party, Valentine's Day Dance and concert field trip. Volunteer Projects: All-school, weekly recycling, tutoring during rotating study halls, Homecoming and special skits for pep rallies, decorating for Christmas, Red Cross Blood drive, and random acts of kindness. Also, members are frequently called upon to assist in school tours, at community events, and with special student needs, etc. We are a very active organization, with a really proud, albeit small, membership.
